The Friends of the NSO (formerly Newark Symphony Society) is the Orchestra support group, providing assistance throughout the season. The Friends had 117 members during the 2008-09 season. The Friends President for the 2011-2012 season is Leni Markell.

The Friends help to keep the Orchestra a vital part of the Newark area community. Our volunteers serve as ushers and ticket takers, provide refreshments at concert intermissions, and raise needed funds. The Friends help to keep the Orchestra a vital part of the Newark area community. Over the past few years we have contributed more than $27,000 to the Orchestra.

Our major events have included:

  • a Wine and Cheese Social to kick off the NSO season,

  • a Fundraising Wine Dinner at Caffé Gelato,

  • "Champagne, Chopin, and More," a special chamber concert, and

  • a Spring Appreciation Luncheon.

The first event of the season is the Wine and Cheese Social. This year's social was held on Sunday, September 25, from 4 - 6 p.m. at the home of Leni Markell. For further information, please call 302-235-2859. More details will be posted as we near the event, so please check back!

We also host an annual Benefit Wine Dinner at Caffé Gelato, 90 East Main Street in Newark.  This year's dinner was on Sunday, January  15, 2012, starting at 6 p.m. We hope you can join us for this deliciously fun event!
