Education and Community
The Newark Symphony is committed to educating young students and
building on their musical foundation, both as performers and as
audience members. Several programs are available through the NSO to
encourage young musicians:
Free Tickets to Concerts: Children 12 and under are admitted to
any of the NSO concerts with accompanying adult. To obtain these tickets, write to
info@newarksymphony.org or call 302-369-3466.
Free
Family Concert: Musicians
from the NSO are committed to performing
an annual Free Family Concert in Newark, where children have a chance
to experience live classical music in a fun and developmentally
appropriate atmosphere. Audience members are
invited to make a good-will donation for admission. The concert
is recommended for children 5-years old and up, and all children must
be accompanied by an adult. The concert will be followed by a
Petting Zoo.
This year's concert,
Toy Symphony, will be held on Sunday, April 22, at 3:00 at The
Independence School. David Brown, our 2009-10 college
division winner of the NSO Youth Concerto Competition, will conduct.
Michael Boudewyns and Sara Valentine will perform.
Petting Zoo: Musicians from the NSO will represent all families
of instruments after the Free Family Concert, in order to give students a
chance to get hands on experience with the instruments.
Ensembles at schools or civic events: Small ensembles from the
NSO are available to make educational presentations in schools or at
civic events. Contact
info@newarksymphony.org or call 369-3466
for more information.
NSO Youth Concerto Competition: Funded by the Pasquale Fund for
Young Musicians, the NSO
annually sponsors a
concerto competition for both High School and
College Division student artists. This competition is designed to
encourage and foster the development of young performing artists in
the Delaware Valley. Each winner will perform an entire concerto with
the NSO, as well as receive a $300 honorarium. Click on
Concerto
Competition on our website for more information. |
