Clare Semes is a senior at Kolbe Academy. She has been studying the violin since she was 3 years old and is currently a student of Choong-Jin Chang, Principal Viola of The Philadelphia Orchestra. She is a recipient of a Starling Violin Scholarship at Temple Music Prep, where she is Concertmaster of The Youth Chamber Orchestra. She is also a recipient of a Snitzer Advanced Studies Scholarship at Settlement Music School.  For the past six summers, Clare has attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, receiving a Fellowship for The American Academy of Conducting at Aspen in 2009.

Clare has performed as soloist with many local symphony orchestras and The Strings International Music Festival. This past September, Clare appeared as a soloist with The Shanghai Philharmonic. With her three sisters, she was an invited soloists for a performance at The Shanghai Concert Hall and on “The Weekly Radio Broadcast.” In 2007 Clare and her sisters were the soloists with The Macau Youth Orchestra for their 10th Anniversary Concert.

Clare performed the Barber Concerto live from Atlanta on NPR’s popular radio show, “From the Top." She has also been heard on Philadelphia’s WRTI, live, as part of their fund-raising and in Hong Kong on RTHK’s “Children’s Corner.”

David Brown is a junior at West Chester University, pursuing a dual-degree in violin performances and music composition.  He is a current student of Sylvia Ahramjian and a former student of Heifetz' pupil, Charles Ponall.  David is Concertmaster of the WCU Chamber Orchestra, and a violinist of "Finesse" (with Jamie Chimchirian, last year's NSO College division winner), West Chester's premier string quartet.

A commissioned composer, David's works have been performed and recorded by such esteemed artists and ensembles as members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia's Network for New Music (twice) and New York City's LINK Ensemble.  His most recent composition, the "Abbots Bromley Horn Dance" for tuba, timpani and piano was premiered and recorded in collaboration with choreographer Mollie Force at West Chester's avant-garde Danza Symbiotica exhibition.  His song, "Another Break of Morning" for soprano, piccolo, glockenspiel and piano was the 2008 winning piece of the Roz Patton Composition Scholarship.

David is an avid tuba player and is principal of both WCU's Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Winds emsembles.  He is also an active Irish folk musician, directing the locally acclaimed Stonehaven Minstrels band and teaching Irish fiddle.
