Violinist Pavel Ilyashov was born in Minsk, Belarus. At the age of
9, he won overall first prize at the "Citte De Stresa" international
competition, edging out competitors as old as 23. His family relocated
to America in 1990. Pavel's playing has been broadcast on ABC, CBS,
PBS and Eurovision. He recently performed live on NPR's Performance
Today, and his debut recording Fantasie Romantique has received critical
acclaim. An active chamber musician, Mr. Ilyashov has been coached
by Felix Galimer, Seymour Lipkin, Gary Graffman and members of the
Emerson, Guarneri and Orion String Quartets. Recent and upcoming chamber
performance collaborators include artists such as Jaime Laredo, Yo Yo Ma,
and jazz legend Paquito D'Rivera. Pavel's pursuit of rarely-heard works
has earned him partnerships with conductors such as Wolfgang Sawallisch
and Charles Dutoit, who has engaged Pavel to perform Schumann's Fantasy
for Violin and Orchestra. He graduated from the Curtis Institute
last spring.
