Benjamin Shwartz is currently assistant conductor of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. He recently graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he received the Shanis Fellowship to study conducting with Otto-Werner Muller. While at Curtis, he worked on projects with Christoph Eschenbach and Ned Rorem. Committed to new music, Mr. Shwartz studied composition with Pierre Boulez and in Germany with Karlheinz Stockhausen, and in 2001 he founded the Philadelphia Sinfonietta. Winner of the prestigious Presser Music Award, Mr. Shwartz was chosen in 2003 by Isaac Karabtchevsky to conduct the Riva Festival Orchestra in Italy. He recently collaborated with jazz violinist Regina Carter. His work can be heard on National Public Radio.
