  • Karen Flint, harpsichordist and artistic director of Brandywine Baroque, has been described as a master of the harpsichord. Her performance of the Bach Concerto for Harpsichord in F will be a pleasure for all.

    --- Marie Hadley-Robinson, Soprano
  • Marie Hadley-Robinson, Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Delaware, has performed with opera companies all over the world. A seasoned soloist and clearly one of the most brilliant personalities on the stage today, Dr. Hadley-Robinson brings depth and understanding to her performance of The Four Last Songs.

    Pierre Jalbert has received numerous awards for his compositions, including a Guggenheim fellowship, two BMI Foundation Composition Awards, two ASCAP Foundation Awards, a Society of Composers' Award, the Bearns Prize in Composition, and a Tanglewood Music Center fellowship. Evocation is characterized by Mr. Jalbert's desire to evoke various emotions and states of being through music.

  • Rosaria Macera, guest conductor, is the Orchestra Director/String Specialist at Shue-Medill Middle School and Newark High School, as well as the concertmaster of the Newark Symphony Orchestra. Miss Macera's musical expertise will be demonstrated in her interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.

  • Each November, the Competition for Young Musicians chooses two soloists to demonstrate their facility and musicianship in concert with the orchestra. One of these soloists will be featured in the March concert and one in the May concert.

  • Alto Saxophone Recital -- Chad Smith, Alto Saxophone
  • The first program in our Chamber Series features the two runners-up of the 1995 18th Annual Competition for Young Musicians. Very talented musicians, Ms. Azuma and Mr. Smith both skillfully combine technique and musicality in their performances.

  • This program of music for winds is guaranteed to dazzle and delight. It includes a work by the Newark Symphony Orchestra's own, Stuart Dick, as well as the works of two renowned French composers.



    ECLECTIC EMINENCE

  • William Copper -- Fugue and Toccata after Bohuslav Cernohorsky
  • Dag Wiren -- Serenade for String Orchestra
  • Benjamin Britten -- Fanfare for St. Edmundsbury
  • Leonard Bernstein -- Chichester Psalms
    --- Ecumenical Chorus and Soloists, Michael Harward, Conductor
  • A program of music of the twentieth century, this concert includes a work by Delaware's own William Copper. Two works by Wiren and Britten follow Copper's piece. The program concludes with Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, performed by members of the Newark Symphony Orchestra and the Ecumenical Chorus and Soloists. Annually, the Newark Ecumenical Chorus assembles from area church choirs for this February chamber concert.



    THE THREE B's - BELOVED; BRILLIANT; BRAVO!

  • Johann Sebastian Bach -- Partita for Unaccompanied Violin, No. 2
  • Ludwig van Beethoven -- Sonata for Horn and Piano
  • Johannes Brahms -- String Sextet in B-flat
  • This program of small ensemble music combines some of the finest musicians from the Newark Symphony Orchestra and the Delaware County Symphony. It promises charm, excitement, and extraordinary playing. This concert will also be performed on Sunday, March 23, 3:00pm at Neumann College, PA.
