The Newark Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce its
30th annual Mildred Gaddis Competition for Young Musicians.

The competition will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware. Both a high school and college winner will be selected, and each will be awarded a $300 honorarium. Both winners will perform their entire concertos with the Newark Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, March 9, 2008.

Requirements for contestants are as follows:

• Contestants must be high school or college students under the age of 25 by December 31, 2007.
• Contestants must be permanent residents or full-time students in Delaware. They may also apply from MD, PA and NJ if they live or study within a 50-mile radius of Newark, DE. Competition winners must be able to commute to the required rehearsals and concert at Loudis Recital Hall), University of Delaware, Newark, DE.
• Contestants must perform on a stringed, wind, or percussion instrument or on piano, with their own accompanist.
• Contestants must be prepared to perform by memory a complete work for solo instrument and orchestra. Single movement works are acceptable.
• Contestants must supply at least one original piano score for use by the judges.
• A non-refundable fee of $25 must accompany each application. Checks should be made payable to Newark Symphony Orchestra.
